“My artistic impulse is to express the Human and Nature environment I live in. I currently live in the American Southwest and my art reflects that.”

A New Jersey native, Katherine Cudney relocated to the high-altitude grasslands of Sonoita Arizona with her stuntman husband and their young son in the early 2000s. There, she cheerfully settled into the life of stay-at-home wife and mother, horse and donkey mama, and animal rescuer.  With her son grown and after her husband’s passing, Katherine turned her attention to her second passion. How fortuitous that Sonoita provides the perfect backdrop for an artist’s rebirth. These grassy plains witnessed the establishment of one of the largest cattle ranches of the American Southwest, the now historic Empire Ranch. They stood firmly through the Apache Wars, hosted Spanish Conquistadors, thrived under the expert horsemanship and ranching skills of the Vaqueros, and to this day they harbor the sacred and artistic traditions of indigenous peoples. Katherine isn’t chasing a signature style or modern twist on classical approaches. Rather, she hopes to share her genuine interpretations of the flora and fauna where she lives and to offer her artistic impressions of the heritage traditions of human culture in the American Southwest.
